A SAD DAY
Abstract
Tuesday, the 18th of December, 2008 was a sad day for every Medical Biochemistry scientists in Egypt. On this day, Soheir Ibrahim Salem passed away and the Egyptian Society of Nuclear Medical Specialists lost one of its real stalwarts, and the profession lost one of finest practitioners. Soheir was born on June 1, 1936 in Banha. After high school, she attended the Faculty of Science at Cairo University, where she obtained her B.Sc in Biochemistry in 1957. Soheir received her M.Sc in Biochemistry in1963 from Arezona University and her Ph.D in Biochemistry in 1969 from Ain Shams University.
Concerning the academic career, Soheir jointed the National Research Center as Assistant Researcher in 1965. She was promoted to Professor of Biochemistry in Medical Biochemistry Department, Medical Research Division. She occupied the post of Head of Medical Research Division. She actively served in many capacities including that a membership in nine verified scientific committees, organization of four specialized symposiums, execution of nine scientific missions for different countries, tooking apart in different international and internal conferences and publishing seventy nine papers in domestic and foreign journals. Soheir was considerate and courteous woman of great integrity until the end. She will be missed by all of those who knew her.Our deepest condolences to her family.
